Also an update to the GridRepublic program is being tested which adds CUDA support and some other features.

The Bad News: The program update did not come at the end of January due to unforeseen circumstances.

The Good News: GridRepublic's updated new program is schedules for release at the mid to end of June to correspond with new improvements and announcements. The new version is in testing and makes it even easier to join GridRepublic.

Work around until end of June Release:

Until then if you are having problems with the GridRepublic program the recommended procedure is to use the BOINC client and attach to GridRepublic: Seeherefor instructions.

Hello Patrick welcome to GridRepublic. I may have the answer to your questions below.

1. To enable the screensaver you just need to change your computer's default screensaver to that of GridRepublic or BOINC depending on the program you are using.

   Also for future reference upon the installation you can select to use GridRepublic/BOINC as your default screensaver by hitting the advanced button and checking the box for making it the default screensaver.

2. To change the preferences you click on projects in the top bar between about and giving or you can use this linkhere.

I'm no expert here for multiple computer installs, but I've provided resouces I hope you find helpful until someone who may be able to answer your question directly and a few questions regarding your question or possibly might solve your problem. Let me know if this helps.

FYI: The GridRepubulc program is the BOINC program, but is slightly customised and lags a few versions behind the latest BOINC version. If you want the latest features the BOINC progam has them. The website managment through GridRepublic though works with either program you install.

Are the installed programs attached to a GridRepublic account?

You can check by opening the installed program clicking on the advanced view (to return to simple view go to view simple on the top left of the BOINC window) and click on tools on the top menu bar next to view. If it says Sycronise with GridRepublic you're attached, if not it means you need to attach to a GridRepublic account.

First can you clearify where you would like to remove the computer from?

Which list are you wanting to remove them from:

• My Computer list on the Home page once you log in where the amount of work each computer is displayed.
• The Edit or add computer list (http://www.gridrepublic.org/computers)

Either oneI don't think you can remove them at this current time. Would the ability to hide a computer from view on those pages be a helpful? I have made a suggestion for this in the feature and bug reporting toolhere. This reporting document is also found at the bottom of the help section page.

In the giving section it might be a good idea to create progress to different goals. Possibly with this setup money can be directed to development of different features. It could also be used to display different teams and groups who are doing fundrasing for GridRepublic a tool to track their progress as well. Similar to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life's team get when doing fundraising.

Teams, Widgets, etc with an estimated costs to have completed so that people can give towards adding those features to the site. It would also add to the sites interaction of development as we will see what users would like to see next as well as give more openness to the GR operation.

Secondly what about making an option that when money is given to GridRepublic a proportion of it can be passed on to a project of their choice?

Example I give $100 $95 stays with GridRepublic and I select Rosetta@home and SETI of that $5 I can choose to give $3 to the Rosetta project and $2 to the SETI project which GridRepublic can pass on at either instantly or after x amout is reached or x days.

You might even consider adding the ability to donate a % to outreach for certain projects and have stated if that project goes under or is dropped due to security concerns the money will go in a general awareness fund to help all projects in that category.  GridRepublic then becomes a central donation point as well and it can help to provide finacial backing for GridRepublic's development and promotion of projects as well as general operating funds for this nonprofit.

What would you think about having RSS feeds from Science News sites somewhere. People can hear about late breaking science news, skimming article titles and being able to visit them to read more. This might be a way to help to add interesting and relevant content to the website without much work.

I am not quite sure what you are stating here regarding the request for work, but I can answer about the points. The points are not associated with your computer, but is associated with your email which you signed up with. So by detaching you will not lose your points if you reattach at a later point.

Secondly regarding the detachment this I believe is due to your client being attached to an account manager such as GridRepublic. If you would like to detach you must do so in the account manager. Currently this would do so across all your computers running on that account, but with future release GridRepublic plans for individual computer control.

Lastly regarding messages requests for more work from rosetta rending and receiveing 0. I assume since you are using version 6.4.5 that you downloaded it from the Berkeley site and attached GridRepublic as an account manager. If this is true I cannot think of a way that GridRepublic could be causing this. I have GridRepublic on the version 6.4.5 client on windows xp and have tried to reproduce what you have stated and do not see this happening on either of my clients.

I had an idea here at GridRepublic we should provide a small flash or other captured video display of the screensavers from the projects that have them.

The big idea of SETI@home was a screensaver, many projects have them, and even with today people's concern with power savings and losing some computing power, but they are there and we should take advantage of them as another way to draw people to join. I and many others still like screen savers and they are a great way to get the word out. Some people will join just for the cool screensavers I have found from experience.

I know that not every project has a sceensaver, but we should use them as another reason to join.

Let me see if I understand what you are trying to get at.as well as a few ideas of my own. You are looking for an installer that defaulty has the account manager information contained upon time of download. So once it installs then you can forget about it.(this could be useful in makeing the process of joining easier still even for current users). With the individual's info already entered after installing there would require no user imput exept through the GridRepublic site.

Another point I am reading out of your statement is for people who want to participate, but do not want to manage choosing new projects to help and want to give power to basically an advisory account run by GridRepublic or some organisation. Through this account people can just literally install and forget and a person at GridRepublic or the organisation chooses projects for the computers to contribute to as they see fit. While still leaving access for the owner to regain power of project choice at any time desired.

Lastly my addition to the previous for businesses and organisations who don't want to let individual computer users choose projects or be able to control the application on the computer in any way GridRepublic essencially could be a managment tool if the client could be selected to not respond to local attempts via either a specialized client type for businesses and organisations, two a lock out mechanism via GridRepublic so computers can only be managed from the web, or installing in a limited account and managing through GridRepublic all activity for the client.
