Hello,

I downloaded the gridrepublic client earlier this evening and got it up and running as far as I could tell, however it doesn't seem that any of the projects are being completed. I keep checking the advanced settings and every item under the tasks tab keeps ending  without any progress and giving the status report of "computation error." I am also getting a flood of errors in my messages. I tried reinstalling the client earlier, and I have reset the projects after that didn't work, but the same result occured.

Now I am getting a pop up that says "Communicating with BOINC client. Please wait..."

 I am at a loss. A couple brief searches here returned nothing, so I'd really appreciate it if anyone had any suggestions.

Thanks,

Josh

did you "abort" (under the "tasks" tab, in advanced view) all the tasks in progress?

what projects have you joined?

I have tried aborting tasks. When new tasks begin, I get the same result.

I am currently a member of Seti@home, World Community Grid, and Einstein@home.

I have not tried running the program in several days, so I couldn't tell you if the problem has remained the same.

i wonder -- are you on mac or pc?  and what version of the desktop software did you (re) install?  (gridrepublic or boinc, and what version if you know?)

I'm running Mac OS X.6 and Grid Republic 6.8.23

 Sorry, I suppose I should have posted that a long time ago. ^_^'

Can you pls email me the contents of your "messages" tab?

...you can get this info via these steps:

  • open your desktop software
  • then, depending on your current view, do one of the following:
    • if you are in the "simple view": (ie, the view showing the GR or PTP logo), click the  "messages" button in the lower left, then click "copy all" in the resulting popup
    • if you are in the "advanced view": click the "messages" tab, then click the "copy all messages" button
  • then go to the GR contact page, and paste this "messages" content into the main box.  click "send".

thanks.

Just wanted to follow up -- were you ever able to send in your message log via the link below (don't think I saw it)?  Else, did your issue resolve somehow?

Yeah, I'm sorry I haven't replied.

I've run into another problem. I reinstalled Grid Republic again and ran it for a few hours, trying to get a backlog of information to send to you. (Deleting the program, of course, deleted the records) Unfortunately, I've had to shut down my computer since then, and now when I boot it up, instead of grid republic loading properly, I get the message

"BOINC ownership or permissions are not set prperly; please reinstall BOINC (Error code -1024)"

This message also appears anytime I try to open the client independant of startup. So I can't send you the message log you asked for.

To reiterate, I am running the Grid Republic client. I have gotten this message before, which was why I uninstalled the program in the first place and was also a contributing factor to my asking for help.

I can reinstall the program again if you would like, and send you the log of messages before I have to shut the computer down and thus be unable to reopen it.

Let's check the permissions on two items:

{1}

From your Mac desktop, locate this folder:

/Library/Application Support/BOINC Data

...and then do File > Get Info.  Under "Sharing & Permissions", there is a list of names and privileges.  What does this list say?

{2}

Then locate this file:

/Users/[username]/Library/Preferences/BOINC Manager Preferences

...and then  do File > Get Info.  Under "Sharing & Permissions", what does the list say?
