Installing on a network

Installing on a network

I've just installed gridrepublic on a whole bunch of networked computers that were previously running boinc by itself.  Now boinc doesn't run unless Administrator is logged on.

Is there some way to enable gridrepublic for all users on a machine?  It used to  work with boinc, but I can't figure out how to check that setting for gridrepublic...  It seems like pretty basic funcionality, but I can't figure out how to do it, or find it in any of this forum.

Do I have to go around and uninstall gridrepublic and re-install boinc?

 Thanks.

Hello John,

I'm no expert here for multiple computer installs, but I've provided resouces I hope you find helpful until someone who may be able to answer your question directly and a few questions regarding your question or possibly might solve your problem.  Let me know if this helps.

If I understand you correctly you installed the GridRepublic program downloaded from this website to replace the default BOINC program on multiple networked computers.

FYI: The GridRepubulc program is the BOINC program, but is slightly customised and lags a few versions behind the latest BOINC version.  If you want the latest features the BOINC progam has them. The website managment through GridRepublic though works with either program you install.

Are the installed programs attached to a GridRepublic account?

You can check by opening the installed program clicking on the advanced view (to return to simple view go to view simple on the top left of the BOINC window) and click on tools on the top menu bar next to view.  If it says Sycronise with GridRepublic you're attached, if not it means you need to attach to a GridRepublic account.

See here how to attach individually or for installing over a network and If you know how to use a script for network installs it says here to email help{}gridrepublic.org to get a script which upon installation will automatically connect the programs upon install.

I know that they are working on the next version of the GridRepublic program which would enable easier single user automated install, but I  am not sure how it will work with network install though I assume it would make it simpler.

This website may be helpful as well for network install information and settings as the majority of things regarding BOINC work pretty much the same for GridRepublic.

So as a possible solution you can use the latest BOINC install and attach to a GridRepublic Account to manage it.   I hope this helps.

yes, BOINC provides a number of install options; for simplicity, GR desktop provides only a single user mode.  so for your purposes, best to install the generic boinc client and then attach to GR.
