Can someone help me with this, i've got a computer attached to my account that isn't mine, i've got no idea what to do

to un-attach a computer, do this --

  • go to the gridrepublic or boinc desktop application on that computer.
  • if you are in "simple view", click the "advanced" button. (older versions of the software may not have a "simple view")
  • in "advanced view",  click "advanced" in the menubar, then select "stop using gridrepublic"

...that's it.  the computer so changed will no longer be controlled by gridrepublic.  it will, however, continue to work on whatever projects it was previously attached to.  at this point, the machine's owner can leave it as it is,  attach it to another GR account, or to uninstall the desktop software to complete terminate all activity.

note: the computer will persist in the computer list for your account, even after it is not active because the UI is currently designed to provide a complete history of your contributions.  (a bit more about this subject

The issue is that the computer isn't mine, i've never seen it, i shouldn't have ever seen it on there

Oh, I misunderstood.  If you have an unknown computer in your account, this is probably a "duplicate" listing for one of your actual computers.  You can end with duplicates for a variety of reasons, most commonly in connection with uninstall/reinstalls of the desktop software (after, for instance an upgrade of your O.S.).

have you ever removed and then replaced your desktop software for any reason?

i looked at the specs of the pc and i couldn't even afford something like that, it's not just the OS that's different, it's also the hardware and it's got a name that i don't recognise

Ok, I think your issue has been fixed.  Can you confirm?  Also, be sure to do a "refresh" to see if it recurs (or log out and then back in).
