Computer not showing in the list.(boinccmd)

There's a lot of articles/help about duplicate computers showing up in the list but I recently attached a server to my gridrepublic account using boinccmd -joint_acct_mgr and it seems to run fine (except I'm not sure it uses 100% of the cores) but the computer is not showing up in the computer list.

Is the server computer showing up in the computer list now?  There can be a delay in time of joining and when things appear.

As for not using all cores you might want to look at the preferences once it appears or on the local machine.  If you joined Progress Thru Processors the default cpu I believe is 60% and for GridRepublic I'm not sure if its limited or not, but the settings can be changed in the preferences.

I guess we'll never know since I switched to BAM!

I take it that BAM! works for you and you are able to contribute to the projects who are the real winners here anyway. BAM! is a good product and if its working for you that is what counts right?  GridRepublic doesn't get the love and care in development it needs as it looks for more sustainable and proactive operation.

Most development time has gone into Progress Thru Processors and Charity Engine which are partners of GridRepublic... eventually the benefits of development in the Interface will trickle down to GridRepublic (the backend stuff already does) and make this a better competitor.

It works (worked since I don't have that particular server anymore).

And indeed, I was a bit surprisd of the state of  both projects. (BAM! and GR)

I am having the same problem also.

I created my GR account a few days ago and have installed BOINC on two PC's. Both appear to be attached to the GR account and have my two projects listed, stats are showing up on the GR home page but still no computers are listed. At first I installed using the ADD button from the GR computers section. I then uninstalled and installed Windows 7 x64 client from boinc.berkeley.edu, attached to account manager and projects.

I have tried manually attached one PC with the boinccmd --join_acct_mgr command without error, still no computer listings.

I am finding that the program crashes quite a bit too which is really testing my patience.

Hi Hartleigh,  Sorry I this was not reponded to sooner.

There can be a delay between creating your account, attaching a computer, and the computer showing up on the website.  Are you seeing the computers there now?

Please verify that the installs are attached by checking the Advanced Menu's tools drop down and it shoudl have a syncronise with GridRepublic as an option.  You don't see any computers under the Home > My Computers tab ?!?

What projects have you selected?  Crashes can occur if you are participating in GPU projects and have unstable drivers.  We always suggest checking to make sure you have your computer updated and patched.  I've run Windows 7 64 bit with the latest BOINC with no issues but for gpu here and there.  Do you notice a pattern of when the crashes occur or look under the reliability history to see what the technical details are for the crashes to see if it is BOINC causing the issue and not a virus or other program.

Hi Spark, no worries re the late reply.

After synchronizing through the software then refreshing on the gr.org site the projects and computers are now showing up as expected.

As for the crashing, I have uninstalled GR and installed BOINC (are they the same thing? I am not sure what the difference is, if any). I have not experienced any crashing so far but opening BOINC Manager can be problematic. It is hard to explain but this software just does not *feel* like it is working properly even though projects are halted from the computer being in use.

Anyway it is working overall so problem solved.

Glad to hear things are working now.

As for GR vs BOINC installed program:  GR is a branded version of BOINC, but runs a few versions behind the latest for stability and our limited resources to customize the installer.  There is some customizataion going into the GR installer to help streamline the install and account link process.

BOINC is stable, but does have its rough edges.  The largest is the communicatation between the manager and client which can cause a slight delay when opening the program.

Glad things are working now. Smiley
