A project I added about 40 hours ago appeared on the facebook app just a few hours ago as I was refreshing the page.  The info looks accurate.

I'll go back to 1 project and see what happens.

Ok, I think we've fixed the issue wherein FB users were incompletely logged in at GridRepublic -- so now, if you are on the main "dashboard" page in FB, and you click "edit" or "communiity", when you get to GR you should be fully authenticated and able to use all GR site functions without error.

Can you guys give it a try?

The "dashboard" page in FB seems properly integrated with GR pages.

Links work as expected.

I went back down to 1 project no Nov 5 but the FB app still shows all 3 projects I was attached to.

If you go to the main "dashboard" page, and click "widget preferences" there are three settings -

  • Current Projects
  • All Projects
  • No Projects

...To which are you set?

...The idea is that "Current Projects" (should be default) would show only projects you are running actively, but "All Projecs" would show a comprehensive history of all projects you ever ran.  "No Projects" would omit the project list entirely and show only totals.

...If you are set to "Current", and if your list is innacurate, pls email me, support{}gridrepublic.org, with your facebook ID (in facebook, click "profile" to see your FB profile page, then send me the id= number from the URL), and also the email address associated with your account.

Thanks.

One feature I have noticed is missing that I am not sure if you are planning on adding is a way for persons coming from facebook to return to facebook when they are making changes on the GridRepublic site.  Not having a way back easilly might have people use the application less.

yes, you're 100% right.  the plan is that for logins via FB, the "LOGOUT" link in upper right would be replaced w. "BACK TO FACEBOOK".  but this is not done yet.  we're updating the login function to make this easier to impliment.   so this is "two steps away", so to speak.

Widget Settings work as explained, but my default was set to All Projects.

I don't think I changed the setting at some point in the past, but I wish I was 100% sure.

Maybe somebody that's sure they didn't change settings can check to see what their default is.

By the way -- has everyone added a widget to their profile "wall" or "boxes" tab?  This is done with the "add to profile" button on the main dashboard page.  (In the "old" Facebook we used to be able to insert automatically when the user added the application, but Facebook have prevented this, and now require users to do it explicitly....  I'm curious how clear this is to users...)

Also useful: add a "bookmark" (under applications>edit from your FB "home" page), then the app is available via the "applications" button in the lower left of the browser window.

Adding an app to the wall was a major complaint with many when we got hit with new.facebook, so I guess we got used to it pretty fast.

An update --

  • we've further revised the code that handles xfer from facebook to GR.  this wlll prevent some problems moving forward...  also, a "back to facebook" link is in the works (the update to the xfer code will make this easier).
  • we're also in the process of moving the app from the development server to the live/production server.  when the live server is ready, i'll ask you guys to do a second, quick round of testing to be sure the migration was successful.  we'll be able to test "news feed" features at that time.

so, i wonder if everyone could:

  • please confirm that your test accounts have no "real" friends -- ie your test account should have as friends only other test users; no one should have friends with real accounts.  this is important so that we can test newsfeeds within our "sandbox" of test accounts, without leakage to the real world of FB users.
  • please do one more test with the current application: please try removing the app from your account and then re-adding it.

Removing the app and re adding it again was easy enough and uneventful.

So the good news is that we've migrated the GR Facebook app from the development server to what will be the production server.  The bad news is that this means we have to test all over again.

In order to be able to test newsfeeds and other kinds of notifications (which we couldn't test before), we need to configure the application permissions a bit differently.  So this new application will be available to official "facebook test accounts" only.  So, if possible, here's what we need to do:

* Create (yet another) new FB account for this "phase II" test.

* Login to this new account and visit
  http://www.facebook.com/developers/become_test_account.php
(...this will make your account into a test account...)
(...do this before adding any friends: you will afterwards
be able to befriend only other "test" users...)

* Find user "Ken Kesey" (kk{a}gridrepublic.likemind-sites.com)
  and invite him as friend

* ken (aka me) will reply with the address of the test app and
  further instrux.
