Thanks for joining the effort to test the Facebook application.

(If you're not already a participant, you can get more info here.)

Let's use this thread to chat, for questions, etc.

No problems.  Directions were very clear.  Just waiting on the approval.

Just curious...

What's the point of the OS question on the registration page?  GR is web based, so it should work in any browser.  Or is it to help people pick projects?

If the second option, it would be better to tell people their choices may be limited (also gonna be true of Mac people) rather than dumping them back to the sign up page and telling them their OS isn't supported.  I'm rather successfully running BOINC on Linux.  Please don't make me switch my home machines back to Windows.

I'll complete the registration as a Windows user since I do have a Win box at work (and I could switch a home box back).

BTW:  I'm using an existing GR account because I keep everything BOINC under one email address, including this dummy FB account.

Saccia emailed similar questions, so let me try to address --
  • when you click the "get this application" button, you'll get a form that asks you for name, email, etc.  on this form, be sure to use the same email as your boinc projects (and the same name as your WCG account)
  • you do not need to create a gridrepublic account ahead of time.
  • the "select platform" button is for downloads: it determines what platform client you get.  but if you already have boinc accounts this gets ignored.  for now, just say "windows" since it doesn't matter to you.  we'll be adding mac and linux shortly (before launch).
  • in step #2 pick any projects you are currently running, and pls add at least one new one (so you can drop it later). when you pick a project here in step #2, if there is already a user account at that project with your email, you will be attached to it (pending password match or confirmation); else a new account will be created.

Since i used an a different e-mail address for this test, I can "start from scratch"

I've selected Enigma@home from this site  and after the gridrepublic client finishes downloading, I'll start crunching under this new account.

When I see a Facebook news feed regarding the GR app, I'll try to add it from there and see what happens.

ok, thx.  fyi, when "starting from scratch" it is not necessary to have a gridrepublic account or any project accounts: everything can be done from inside facebook (though in such case you wouldn't be able to post here untli after you'd signed up at FB).

Blah!  I jumped the gun.

So if nobody else here is in a position to test from scratch, I can sign up again with a different e-mail and give it another try if needed.

Maybe found a bug??  I have created my account via the join as asked.  I have also added the widget part of the app to my front page of my facebook.  Through this I click edit and went in to community to post this error that shows up when I get to the community section.

Here it is(Notice:  Undefined index:  userid in /var/www/vhost/www.gridrepublic.org/joomla/smf/Sources/Load.php on line 362) On the page it is showing as though I am logged in, but I tried to post this error and It would prompt me to log in while displaying on the screen welcome, Jon Tester. I have repeated this a few times now and it continues to occur.

So I leave this to be figured out.

Edit: to leave this I logged in from the GridRepublic site manually typed in.

yep, that looks like a bug.  had seen that in the past, though we fixed it; will investigate.  (PS: when posting bugs here, pls let me know what browser/OS you are using)

by the way -- jon -- you clicked "edit" on the widget to get to your "summary" page, i assume.  then, did you click the orange "community" button (at bottom), or the "community" link in the menubar?

Well so far so good...all seems good, like the added benefit of gridrepublic's detail stats...very nice and looks pretty impressive too.

Matt the OS is Windows XP Home, and Firefox 3.0.3 for the browser.

The method of entry to the community section did not matter.  I repeated by the community button, clicking on the I icon in the total row of the edit screen from the widget.

I have found that if I log into the grid republic site separately and then come in through the widget that the bug does not show and things work as they should.

yes, there is definitely an issue with the code that manages transfer from FB to gridrepublic.  it is a small thing, we know (now) what it is.  hopefully will get it fixed over the weekend.

meanwhile, is anyone having any other issues?  (i guess there are a lot of features you can't test if you can't get from FB pages to GR pages; so pls stay tuned in any event.)

meanwhile, can everyone please add and remove a project?

...then please check back the next few days to see if the changes are correctly registering at FB (along with stats, though note that stats are {a} only updated once per 24 hours, and so may lag; and {b} are reported in CPU-hours, not credits, where credits * 0.24 = cpu-hours.)

...known issue: we need to update the add/remove project confirmation pages at GR, to inform users that there may be some lag before changes at GR are propagated to FB.
